Offered here from the dougfinds collection of curated
fashion, accessories, clothing, collectibles, and unique gifts is this exceptional vintage
Bitossi art pottery vase designed by master ceramicist Aldo Londi for Bitossi
and imported to the United States by Rosenthal Netter during the height of the
Mid-Century Modern era.
Executed in the highly sought-after Thai
Silk décor, this hand-crafted Italian ceramic vase showcases everything
collectors admire about Aldo Londi's work. A richly textured olive-green
volcanic glaze serves as the backdrop for a vibrant Rimini Blue decorative band
featuring stylized gilt floral medallions outlined in delicate sgraffito
decoration. Rows of impressed dots frame the design, while hand-applied gold
accent bands elegantly finish both the shoulder and base.
The interior displays the warm
hand-thrown terracotta body beneath a glossy olive glaze, while the underside
retains the hand-painted "64/3" factory notation together with
a painted decorator's mark, consistent with Bitossi's production methods of the
1960s. Similar examples from this Thai Silk series were commissioned by
Rosenthal Netter for the American market before the company ceased operations
in the late 1970s. InCollect
Collectors of Italian Mid-Century
Modern design will immediately recognize the unmistakable combination of
volcanic glaze, Rimini Blue, gilt floral decoration, and handcrafted artistry
that has made Aldo Londi's Bitossi ceramics among the most sought-after
decorative objects of the period.
Whether displayed as a standalone
statement piece or alongside other Bitossi and Rosenthal Netter examples, this
vase offers remarkable color, texture, and presence.
