Offered here from the dougfinds collection of curated fashion, accessories, clothing, collectibles, and unique gifts is this authentic vintage Dooney & Bourke Y2K Rainbow DB monogram shoulder bag, featuring a wonderfully colorful red all-over DB scatter print, genuine leather trim, double buckled front pockets, rainbow zipper and the original signature Dooney & Bourke heart charm.

This bag has been given a careful second life.

When found, its original exterior protective coating had deteriorated substantially with age, becoming yellowed, tired and damaged and muting the wonderfully colorful design underneath. The deteriorated coating was completely removed, revealing the dramatically brighter red ground and multicolor DB scatter print seen today. The exterior was then protected with three coats of Angelus protective finish.

During cleaning, the original cream/ivory finish on the leather trim began releasing from the underlying leather and could not reasonably be preserved. Rather than attempting to recreate an original factory appearance, the failing finish was removed and the natural leather underneath was retained, producing the warm brown leather seen throughout the photographs. Remnants of the original cream/ivory leather color can still be seen on the interior Dooney & Bourke leather label. Much of the contrasting blue edge color on the exterior leather was successfully preserved.

This is therefore not being represented as an untouched or completely original-finish vintage Dooney & Bourke bag. It is an authentic vintage Dooney that has been cleaned, revived and cosmetically reconditioned so that it can be carried and enjoyed again.

And what emerged from underneath all those years is one seriously fun Y2K bag.

The bag still retains evidence of the life it lived before its revival. The exposed natural leather shows variations in color, creasing, surface wear and patina; hardware has age-related wear; and additional vintage wear remains throughout the exterior and interior. The restored exterior is not intended to mimic factory-new condition.

What it does offer is the real thing underneath: an authentic early-2000s Dooney & Bourke with its original Rainbow DB personality, wonderful double-pocket design, leather construction details, rainbow zipper and heart charm — revived rather than discarded.

The restoration has brought back tremendous color and character while deliberately leaving this vintage bag looking like a vintage bag. The natural leather will continue to soften, flex and develop character with handling and use — in other words, it's ready to be broken in all over again.
