Offered here from the dougfinds collection of

this authentic vintage
Lladró “Playful Cat” porcelain figurine, model #5091, handmade in Spain.
Some Lladró pieces are
elegant. Some are sentimental.
This cat looks like it has
just spotted something moving across the floor and has approximately half a
second remaining before all hell breaks loose.
And that's precisely what
makes Playful Cat such a fun little Lladró.
The sculptor captured the
kitten in a wonderfully animated play-bow pose—front paws stretched
forward, hindquarters in the air, tail standing high and curved above its back.
The expression completes it: wide attentive eyes, ears forward and mouth
slightly open as though whatever caught its attention is about to have a very bad
afternoon.

The modeling is especially
good on this one. Rather than a static seated cat, the entire sculpture has
movement—the lowered shoulders, outstretched paws, raised rear legs and
exaggerated upright tail make it look as though the kitten could spring forward
at any moment.
The soft tan coloration
against Lladró's glossy pale porcelain keeps it unmistakably Lladró while
giving the piece enough warmth and expression to make it a particularly
appealing animal figure.
This example is also in excellent
vintage condition. I find no chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs, and the
glossy glaze remains bright throughout. The underside/back area retains the
clearly visible authentic Lladró blue factory backstamp along with its incised
markings and factory vent hole, all of which have been photographed in detail.
For a Lladró collector,
cat lover, Spanish porcelain collection or animal figurine display, this is
an especially charming retired design—and considerably more entertaining than a
cat that simply agreed to sit still.
