Offered
here from the dougfinds collection of curated fashion, accessories, clothing,
collectibles, and unique gifts is this beautiful
antique Robert Hanke Royal Wettina porcelain vase, produced in Austria
during the height of the Art Nouveau movement.
Standing approximately 6
inches tall, this elegant cabinet vase features one of Robert Hanke's most
recognizable decorative styles: soft ivory porcelain accented by richly colored
pink roses, flowing gilt embellishments, and elaborate openwork molded handles
adorned with delicate berry clusters.
The underside bears the Royal
Wettina crown backstamp used by the Robert Hanke factory during the late
19th and early 20th centuries, placing production between approximately 1882
and 1914, making this a genuine piece of pre-World War I European decorative
art.
What makes this example
especially desirable is its remarkable state of preservation.
The elaborate molded
handles remain completely intact, including every berry cluster and connecting
bridge. These fragile protrusions are almost always found with chips, repairs,
or losses after more than a century of use, making intact examples increasingly
difficult to locate.
The softly tapered body is
decorated with richly colored pink roses surrounded by flowing Art Nouveau gilt
scrollwork. The restrained ivory glaze allows the floral decoration to stand
out beautifully while maintaining the elegant aesthetic that made Austrian
decorative porcelain so popular during the Belle Époque.
Because Robert Hanke's
Austrian production effectively ended with the political changes surrounding
World War I, pieces bearing the Royal Wettina mark represent artifacts from a
vanished European empire and remain highly collectible today.
