Offered here from
the dougfinds collection of curated fashion, accessories, clothing,
collectibles, and unique finds is this original bright yellow newspaper
vending machine for The National Sports Daily, a short-lived American
sports newspaper published from 1990 to 1991.
This is the real
thing—not a reproduction or a modern decorative cabinet. Its yellow metal body
carries The National branding on both sides and the lower front door,
with the newspaper’s eagle graphic, a front display window, and the original 75¢
DAILY / 3 QUARTERS coin-price signage.
The manufacturer’s
plate identifies it as a News Merchant, Model EB-88, made in the USA by
EB Metal Industries, Inc. of Whitehall, New York, serial number 4566.
A
little history:
The National Sports Daily debuted in January 1990 with an ambitious vision for
an all-sports newspaper. Its run ended in June 1991. This machine is a tangible
survivor of that brief chapter in American sports and newspaper history.
