Offered here from the dougfinds collection of curated
fashion, accessories, clothing, collectibles, and unique gifts is this beautiful vintage Georges
Briard Imperial Brocade
porcelain teapot with its original bent bamboo overhead handle.
Unlike many
decorative teapots inspired by Asian motifs, this design carries documented
historical inspiration. The original backstamp identifies the pattern as "Imperial Brocade,"
an authentic reproduction of a nineteenth-century Japanese Kutani porcelain
design known as Akaki-Kinga
Kutani, dating to approximately 1849 and reproduced from the private
collection of celebrated designer Georges
Briard.
The
combination of brilliant red brocade decoration, white porcelain, gold
detailing, and genuine bent bamboo creates one of Briard's most recognizable
Mid-Century Modern Asian-inspired designs.
One of the
highlights of this example is its remarkably well-preserved bamboo handle.
Because bamboo naturally dries and becomes fragile with age, surviving examples
often show significant cracking or replacement handles. This original handle
remains complete, secure, and displays beautifully.
Whether
displayed in a Mid-Century Modern interior, Asian-inspired collection,
or Georges Briard display, this piece offers both decorative appeal and
collectible significance.
A wonderful
addition for collectors of Georges Briard, vintage Japanese porcelain,
Mid-Century Modern décor, or Kutani-inspired ceramics.
