Offered here from the dougfinds collection of curated
fashion, accessories, clothing, collectibles, and unique gifts is this gorgeous
Jozefina art glass oil lamp, attributed to Jozefina of Krosno, Poland and
dating to approximately the 1980s–1990s.
This striking hand-blown studio glass lamp combines two
dramatically different glass treatments. The rounded oil reservoir is formed in
opaque milky white glass, while the sculptural openwork base is created
from flowing clear glass supports containing rich orange and deep red
ribbon-like swirls. The contrasting colors and textures give the lamp a
wonderful sculptural quality from every viewing angle.
Particularly appealing is the combination of the opaque
white reservoir with the elaborate clear and colored ribbon-work below. Rather
than a simple solid-color form, the glassmaker has incorporated multiple
individually formed supports that curve outward from the reservoir before
gathering together above the broad clear glass foot.
The lamp displays characteristics of traditional
mouth-blown art glass construction, including the visible finishing/pontil area
beneath the base. Subtle variations within the formed glass are consistent with
its handmade character.
